Is that email from Meta legit?
If you’re an advertiser or manage a Facebook page, you know all about these scams. They pose as Meta to try and get you to click some dangerous link and take over your account.
Well, they’re getting better. While there are some red flags to look for, there’s one important step that you can take when you get one of these emails.
What to Do
If you get an email that claims to be from Facebook or Meta that looks suspicious, go to this link.
There, you’ll see a log of emails that have been sent from Meta. The primary tab is Security.
The other tab is for Other Emails. This could be for marketing and other stuff you’re subscribed to.
If you don’t see the email here, it was probably a scam.
What Else to Do
Also check the email address to see if it’s from a Meta-owned domain. It’s also rare that you’ll be contacted by email for this, though maybe not impossible. But, you’d certainly see alerts within your account that come from Meta if that were the case.
When in doubt, don’t click any links. And reach out to Facebook Support if you’re not sure.
