A restriction period is coming to the US. If you run ads about social issues, elections, or politics, listen up…
As Meta has done since 2020, this restriction period will block any new ads from running during the final week leading up to Election Day. This starts at 12:01 am Pacific Time on October 27th and runs through 11:59 pm on November 3rd.
What Restrictions Mean
That doesn’t mean that political ads won’t run during this time. But if you want to run political ads between October 27th and November 3rd, they will need to be approved and receive at least one impression before the restriction period starts. Otherwise, you’ll need to wait until the restriction period ends.
And if your ads for social issues and politics do run during the restriction period, you’ll be limited on the types of edits you can make. You’ll only be able to make the following edits:
- Bid
- Budget
- Scheduled end date
- Pause or unpause your ads
You won’t be able to make changes to creative, targeting, placement, or optimization. So be prepared.
Get Ads Approved Now
The worst thing you can do if you run political ads is wait until the last minute. Get these ads approved now so that they can run during the restriction period. Otherwise, expect review delays heading up to October 27th that could prevent your ads from running.
