Have you ever seen this error?
This is for a lookalike audience found on the Audiences page. Under availability, it says “Audience Not Created.” Hover over the tooltip, and it says…
“We couldn’t create your lookalike audience. This may be due to the size of your source. To create a lookalike audience, your source must include at least 100 people in the same country.”
There’s also mention of this in Meta’s documentation about lookalike audiences:
“Your source audience must contain at least 100 people from a single country to use it as the basis for a lookalike audience.”
We’ve heard of the 100 person minimum for a source audience to create a lookalike audience for quite some time, but there are a couple of things to discuss here.
First, Meta’s wording suggests that the 100 person minium is for a single country, but it doesn’t specify that it matters what country that is. Originally, you needed 100 people in the source audience in the country you want to create your lookalike audience. That’s no longer the case.
Second, this minimum isn’t consistently enforced. To test this, I created another lookalike audience based on a source that I know includes no more than nine people. Not in a single country, but total.
No error. The audience created and is ready to be used.
Obviously, the 100 minimum per country is still a good goal since it will surely help you get a more accurate lookalike audience. But it definitely seems as though it’s not a hard minimum.
