Facebook Ads Now Refreshing

Did you think you saw the Facebook ads on the right hand side suddenly change while viewing your News Feed without refreshing? Your eyes aren’t deceiving you!

This is an apparent attempt by Facebook to squeeze in more ads, particularly for users who just sit on their News Feed all day without navigating to other pages. There doesn’t appear to be a set amount of time before refreshing, but it seems to happen after a minute or a few minutes.

I haven’t seen it happen while viewing Lists or application views, only while viewing News Feed. Have you seen this yet? What do you think?

It looks like this will screw up the avg CTR massively. Have you test this Jon?

    Cheers

It’s an interesting thought. I think you’re right that it should impact CTR, but I question how much. The refresh doesn’t happen for at least a minute, and it’s often multiple minutes. If someone doesn’t click your ad after an impression of one minute+, were they going to click on it anyway? Is the ad refresh any different than the user simply going to a new page and seeing different ads?

I’m not sure. But I certainly am asking questions…

Def worth testing further. I appreciate your comments!

For me is unpredictable science for the most part. Recently I been putting out ads as cpm because is a tight targeting and they don’t get clicks until I switch to cpc. What the heck is happening? could the algorithm select where to position the ads in different locations based in if they are cpc or cpm?

This to me is a form of fraud.
